Kauaʻi’s Landfill Is Running Out of Room
Kauaʻi’s only landfill, located in Kekaha, is projected to reach full capacity by 2030. Every day, about 260 tons of waste are buried much of it materials that could be reused, recycled, or composted. Once the landfill is full, there’s nowhere “away” to send it.
This isn’t just about trash. It’s about clean water, healthy reefs, and our keiki’s future. When waste breaks down, it leaches toxins into the soil, releases greenhouse gases, and threatens the ‘āina we all depend on. But there’s another way.
